Ranked for phone play from Canada · 11 casinosSearch the Canadian App Store for casino apps and you'll get pages of results. Very few of them let you deposit a dollar outside Ontario. That gap between what the store shows and what you can actually use is what this page is about.
Our editors walked through each install route below on an iPhone and an Android phone and checked the store listings in October 2026. Where a claim comes from a review site rather than our own look, we say so.
Three different things called an app
When a casino says "download our app", it means one of three things.
- A store app. Listed in Apple's App Store or Google Play, reviewed by the store, updated automatically. The rarest kind for Canadians outside Ontario.
- An APK. An Android install file downloaded from the casino's own website. It runs like any other app once installed, but nobody at Google checked it, and you update it by hand.
- A web app. The mobile site saved to your home screen. It opens full-screen with its own icon and no browser bar, and it is still the website underneath.
None of these is automatically better. A well-built web app beats a sloppy APK every time.
Why the App Store is nearly empty outside Ontario
Apple only accepts real money gambling apps from operators that hold the licences for the places where the app is offered, and the app has to be limited to those places. Ontario has a full licensing system, so Ontario-licensed casinos publish apps freely. LeoVegas, Luxury Casino, Zodiac, Yukon Gold and ComeOn all have App Store apps in Canada, and every one of them is marked for Ontario players only.
The rest of the country is mostly served by offshore sites with Curaçao, Malta or Kahnawake licences. Most of them never get a store listing, which is why their "app" is an APK on Android and the browser on iPhone. Alberta's new regulated market, open since 13 July 2026, may add another wave of province-only apps over the coming year.

Spin Casino and the handful of real iPhone apps
Spin Casino is the standout. Its App Store app, published by Cadtree Limited, carries 4.6 stars from more than 2,200 ratings and covers Ontario, Alberta and the rest of Canada, each routed to the right licensed product. Jackpot City, from the same group, has a similar app with a far larger rating count. Both take Apple Pay in the cashier, which makes a C$10 deposit a two-tap job. If paying with a phone wallet is what matters most to you, our Apple Pay casinos guide lists who takes it. Our Spin Casino review and Jackpot City review cover the apps in detail.
22Bet and GGBet are in the store too, but both apps are built around sports and esports betting. The casino is there or a tap away, and the 22Bet app's 2.8-star rating suggests patience is needed. For slots we'd use their mobile sites.
Two warnings. Mr Bet's site offers an iOS download, but one Canadian reviewer found it opened unrelated free games instead of the casino; Safari is the safer route. Ice Casino's site also mentions an iPhone app that we could not find in the Canadian store.
Sideloading an APK without regret
On Android, most casinos hand you an APK. Installing one is easy. Installing one safely takes a minute more.
- Get it from the casino's own site, typed into the address bar or reached from a page you trust. Never from an ad, a Telegram channel or a "mod" site.
- Allow unknown installs for one app only. On most phones that lives under Settings, Apps, Special app access, Install unknown apps. Grant it to Chrome, install, then switch it off again.
- Leave Google Play Protect on. It will warn about an unknown app; read the warning instead of dismissing it by reflex.
- Watch the permissions. A casino app needs the internet, notifications, and perhaps the camera for ID photos. It has no business asking for your SMS, contacts, accessibility services or device admin rights.
- Updates must match. Android refuses to install an update signed with a different key than the app you already have. If an "update" fails with a package conflict, delete the file and get a fresh one from the casino's site.
Size tells you something too. Mr Bet's APK is about 4.6 MB, tiny for an app with 7,000 games, which suggests a thin shell around the mobile site. That is not a bad thing; it just means the APK adds little beyond an icon.
The copycats on Google Play
Search Google Play for Wazamba or Vulkan Vegas and you'll find apps with the brand name in them. None of them comes from the casino. Our research found only clone apps for both names, and Jackpot City warns that look-alikes exist for its app as well.
The Yukon Gold case shows how confusing it gets: a "Yukon Gold Casino Rewards" app by LabelCare B.V. is a slot-news app, while the real Yukon Gold app is published by Apollo Entertainment and only serves Ontario.
Check the developer name under the app title. If it doesn't match the operator named in the casino's footer, back out.
Putting a web app on your iPhone home screen
For most casinos on iPhone, this is the app. Open the casino in Safari, tap the Share button, scroll and tap Add to Home Screen, then Add. The icon behaves like an app: full screen, no tabs, and it remembers your login like the browser does.
Energy Casino and RocketPlay are built around this. On Android the same idea is a menu option called Install app or Add to Home screen in Chrome. Recent iOS versions also allow notifications from home-screen web apps, so you can get the same promo pings a native app would send, or decline them.
The quiet advantages: a web app takes almost no storage, can't ask for odd permissions, and is always the latest version.
Updates, storage and battery
Store apps update themselves. APKs don't; the casino either prompts you inside the app or expects you to download the new file. An outdated APK can break the cashier at the worst moment, so take the prompt when it appears.
Native apps and browsers both cache game graphics. After a week of slots, look under Settings, Storage and clear the cache if the app or browser has grown past a few hundred megabytes. Live dealer streams use the most data and battery of anything in a casino, so on mobile data our mobile live casino guide has tips for keeping them in check.
Whichever route you choose, the account, the bonus terms and the payout rules are the same as on the website. The icon only changes how quickly you can open it, which is also a reason to set limits first. Our responsible gambling page lists the phone settings that help.
Questions
Are real money casino apps legal in Canada?
Provincially licensed apps are legal in their province, such as Ontario or Alberta. Elsewhere, Canadians commonly play at offshore casinos licensed in Kahnawake, Curaçao or Malta; their apps and sites operate in a grey zone that is not prosecuted against players.
Why can't I find a casino's app in the App Store?
Apple only lists real money gambling apps from operators licensed where the app is offered. Many casinos have an Ontario-only app or none at all, so outside Ontario you use an APK on Android or the mobile site on iPhone.
Is installing a casino APK safe?
It can be, if the file comes straight from the casino's own website, you allow unknown installs for one app only and switch it off afterwards, and the app asks for no permissions beyond internet, notifications and camera.
Do apps get better bonuses than the website?
Usually not. The account and offers are shared across app and browser. Occasionally a casino runs an app-only promotion; check the promotions page in both before you deposit.
